This post was originally going to be an outfit post with only me in it, but my daughter Justice wanted to join in! I'm always excited to do outfit posts, but when someone wants to join me I'm even more excited! If you have ever done photo shoots alone, you know how awkward it can feel smiling at no one, especially if a stranger walks by. So if my daughter is there with me, it just looks like we are having fun on purpose! Which we always do anyway :)

I would list outfit details, but pretty much everything we are wearing were either gifts, handmade, or I've posted about it already. These are just everyday winter clothes that are comfy.

A little book review...

Book review!

Okay, so I know this isn't your typical book review, but this book is too much fun! Its a cool green color, and the title is really catchy! I saw it at Barnes & Noble right before we entered, and to be honest, it just really stood out from the rest of the books. That's why I grabbed it. Not to mention I set the door alarms off when we entered...oops!

Trivia For The Toilet by Gavin Webster is a great little book about everything! We all love to know a little something about everything, and that is what this book is all about.

Here's a few examples from the book:

* The yo-yo was introduced in1929 by Donald F. Duncan. The toy was based on a weapon used by 16th century Filipino hunters.

*A jiffy is an actual unit of time for 1/100 of a second.

*The English word "soup" comes from the Middle Ages word "sop" which means a slice of bread which roast drippings were poured. The first archeological evidence of soup being consumed dates back to 6000 B.C.E.with the main ingredient being hippopotamus bones.

*in 1945 a computer at Harvard malfunctioned and Grace Hopper, who was working on the computer, investigated, found a moth in one of the circuits, and removed it. Ever since, when something goes wrong with a computer, it is said to have a bug in it.

Usually we leave it to my 15 yr old son to fill our brains with random trivia, but even this book has him beat! (for now, ha ha)

Scones!

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups self rising flour
3/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
a pinch of salt
1 1/14 oz of unsalted butter
1 cup of milk
*yeilds 6 triangles

This weekend I originally planned on making cupcakes, but then scones happened! I haven't made scones in years, and they are some of my favorite breakfast treats. This recipe is out of my essential baking cookbook. I plan on cooking a recipe out of this book on my days off. I love making all sorts of goodies and I thought, why should I just limit myself to baking cupcakes?

Anyway, after you get all of your ingredients, Preheat your oven at 425 (220 C) Mix all your dry ingredients first. Next work the butter in. I used my hands for this part and I made sure the butter was room temperature. If you are going to add fruit, this would be the time. Then add half of the milk. Use cutting motions. The dough should be clumpy. With Floured hands place the dough on a floured surface. Lightly pat into a circle. Now at this point you could use a cookie cutter or slice the dough. I slice mine into triangles. Place them on a greased cookie sheet, lightly brush with milk or an egg wash and bake for about 13-15 minutes.

If you aren't sure if they are cooked, break one open, they should not be doughy inside. Once they are done serve them up! Scones are the best when they are fresh out of the oven! Enjoy!

A Day in the Life...

Have I mentioned that I work a lot? Oh, My. Gosh. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed. I'm glad when I have days off so I can re-coop and center myself. It was kind of a rough week for me, and I was surprised I just didn't hide indoors. Luckily the weather was warm, and we all decided to go out to Burlington. My wife, daughter and I did a lot of window shopping. We had yummy pizza, and found some cute vintage shops. By the time we left Barnes & Noble I was done! The anxiety started to kick in, We actually had to do "real" shopping and my heart started to race. I guess I have a four hour limit and then I expire. We were in Best Buy and all I wanted to do was get out of there. I was on sensory overload. Long story short, once we got back into town I was feeling much better, When we got home I perched myself on the couch and continued to crochet my scarf. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun! I'm also very lucky to have a family that understands what I go through. My wife and kids are very quick to help me stop the attacks before they go full blown. I love them so much!

I also got  a couple of cool books I'll be sharing with you soon! I hope you all are having a great weekend :)

Cupcake Love

So yummy! All these cupcakes are really cute! Plus I like that they are very simple. I love that cupcakes have come such a long way from your basic vanilla, with vanilla frosting, but Simple can be so cute! I think my favorite are the button topped ones and the dirt cupcakes. I could eat them all up! I had to take a break from all the unpacking, and looking up cupcake ideas was the best to do! I think this year I'm going to get back into baking, I miss it so much! I'm going to try to bake cupcakes at least every other week. I think I should make that a challenge, like 52 week cupcake challenge? That sounds like it could be a thing right?

A new year...and My Birthday!

Saturday, January 3, 2015

This is Sparky. Sparky says Happy New Year!!

My brother was walking ahead of us....he turned around and said strike a pose! So naturally this is the first thing I do!

Okay, so I know I haven't been blogging a lot lately, but trust me there are so many reasons why! First off, about a week ago, my hard drive crashed! That's like one of the worst experiences ever. Sadly I lost everything on it! Luckily any important family pictures are on my other computer, which is packed! Anyway, they sent us a new hard drive, so I am a much more happy girl!

In other News today is my birthday!! I also share my birthday my nieces Hope, Faith and Grace. (and yes they are identical triplets) My brother brought the girls and my other niece, Malia, to New York City, and we went up to visit them! I love them so much! We saw the 9/11 memorial, took a ride on the Staten Island ferry, saw the bull on Wall Street and hung out. My brother was staying at his girlfriend Kimberley's Uncle's place in lower Manhattan. It was a super swanky apartment! I've been to Time Square so many times that it was actually a nice change to sit and enjoy the city. We had so much fun! My brother and the girls are back on a plane today, headed back to Cali. I hope we get to make a road trip out to Cali again to see everyone, the last one was so much fun!

So, it's 2015. Where did the time go? I will officially have teenagers this year because my youngest will turn 13.I will be starting my same job in a new location. In 2 days we will be moved back to Vermont, where my wife and I started our adventure. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would have 5 cats and 2 dogs! 2 out of the 7 pets were intentional, the other 5 were happy additions that needed homes. So many things can happen in a year, I'm excited to see what 2015 brings! I hope we all have good health, yummy food, stable jobs and roof over our heads! I also have a different kind of New Year's resolution list, but I'll save that for another post!

Wish us luck on our move! There's suppose to be a big storm, I'm hoping it isn't bad!
