Movie Review

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

I normally don't do movie reviews, and I know that I'm posting this a little late, but I have to say that this movie is just to awesome to ignore! Not to mention the theme song will be stuck in your head for days! I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. I normally get motion sickness with 3D, but this movie wasn't so bad. It's not just a kid movie either. It's filled with lots of jokes! There's even a death scene!
One of my favorite characters is unicat and the land she comes from. So much weirdness! I love it! I don't want to give too much away...

Unicorn kitty says: go watch this movie!

Candy In New York City

Monday, February 17, 2014

I love how colorful all these pictures are! Not only did we get to go to one of the coolest candy shops I've ever been to, I also got to meet Meghan from Adventures in Mediocrity! It's really neat when you get to meet a blogger in "real life" and find out that they are just as nice, as they are on their blog. She is super sweet! (no pun intended, considering she works with candy!) and her makeup is awesome! I wish we had more time to hang out, but she was working. At least we got to talk for a little bit and snap a cute picture together! I also forgot to mention how cute her hair is!
Anyway, if you are ever in the city, this place is a must see because it smells heavenly right when you walk in the doors! They have all your favorites, plus an ice cream shop and an actual bar! The bar was closed when we were there, but I bet it's fantastic.

Of course I can never resist a photo booth! They supply you with lots of fun props! We bought so much candy. My son bought a 5 lb gummy bear!! It's as big as his head! I'm not sure how he is going to eat it all, but I'm sure he will find a way!
I have a lot more pictures to upload, edit, and share...those will be coming up next!
We had such a fun weekend!

Life Lately - iPhone Photo Dump

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

I'm so excited for this weekend! This picture of me and my brother Kevin is from 2 years ago in NYC. This weekend he will be here again! My wife, kids, and I get to see him and his girlfriend this weekend! I never get to see my family so I'm always super excited when I get to spend time with them.

I've been curling my hair again. I like it so much better with bouncy curls. I need to buy one of those curling wands. I currently have a marcel style curling iron. It's lasted me 10 years!

I was also recently in the hospital. I had to go to the E.R. really early in the morning. After some fluids and a CT scan I found out that I was passing a kidney stone. The I.V. left me with horrible bruises!

This quote means a lot to me. I'm working on a lot of trouble myself!

It's my daughter's birthday Friday!! She's my little Valentine's day baby :)

I made her this cake for our family birthday party since we will be in New York city for her birthday.

I've also been doing a lot arm knitting too! This is actually a really cute scarf, but my wife decided to turn it into a beard! She is such a butt head, but a cute butt head. Hopefully I'll get a better picture!

Now this last picture is kind of gross, but it's my kidney stone. I know some people might think it's weird to write about something like this, but kidney stones have been a part of my life for the last 5 years. I'm really hoping that this is the last one I'll ever pass. Though I'm sure there's probably a couple more hiding in there. This little guy, we shall call him Maximus, took about 6 days to pass. The pain only lasted about 5 hours and then turned into a dull ache. I guess I carried the Max around in my bladder the rest of the time. I ended up passing it at work, of all places! This isn't the biggest stone I've passed either. The last one I had was misdiagnosed and took me a month to pass! It was beyond painful.

This is such a painful reality for me....but lemonade helps!
How has life been for you lately?

Vegetarian Mini Taco Cups

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Ingredients:
1 can vegetarian refried beans
1 can kidney beans (optional)
24 won ton wraps (makes 12 taco cups)
Shredded cheese (your choice!) I used a Colby Jack blend
And whatever other toppings you like!
I added lettuce, tomato, avocado , jalapeƱos and Cholula sauce as toppings. I also made Spanish rice as a side dish.

Step one: preheat oven at 350
Then spray your cupcake pan with non-stick spray.
Next place won ton wraps in pan. I layered two each.
I mixed my refried beans with kidney beans just to add a little more texture.
Scoop a heaping tablespoon into each won ton and too with cheese!
I had mine in the oven for about ten minutes or when the won ton corners looked golden brown.
Here's my Spanish rice..but that's a family secret!
I always have to eat avocados!
Here is how they should look when they are ready!
This was enough food for four, though my teenage son is like a bottomless pit! I almost had to make a whole separate tray for him! It was amazing too because my kids don't normally like beans, but they devoured these :)
I hope you guys try this recipe! It was such an easy dinner, it only took about 20 minutes. The rice is what took the longest to cook. I originally saw this recipe somewhere on Pinterest, but I never re-pinned it, so I just winged it! Enjoy!

Our photobooth pictures

We had so much fun! I originally wanted to plan a surprise party for her, but everyone was away that weekend. Of course her birthday fell on Super Bowl weekend too, so that didn't help. Thankfully her best friend Sarah came to the rescue! We spent the night at their house too! It's always awesome to have good friends, especially when they have kids. Their kids couldn't come because they are all very little still, but we got to spend time with them when we got back to their house. They have a newborn and he is super cute! You know, it's funny how your perspective changes when you're married and you love being with your family. The days of going bar hopping and getting wasted disappear. It's more important to make memories that you'll actually remember. I love that.
