Birthdays = Cupcakes!

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Yes those are pencils that my son is holding! He has this thing, where he thinks it's cool to break pencils with his thumb, so his friends got him pencils for his birthday! Priceless. I'm still in shock at the fact that I'm the mother of a 14 yr. old. When did that happen? They really grow up way too fast! He's such an awesome young man though. He is constantly thriving to get good grades in school. I really think it's because he likes to be the smartest person in the room. Seriously, at dinner time, we get our fill of facts about science, history and world studies. He's hilarious, I call him my mini Sheldon.

Those cupcakes I made were the easiest by far! If you want to see the technique I used, I posted it in my instagram HERE. It was really easy. All you have to do is pour sprinkles into a bowl and dip your iced cupcake into the sprinkles. The sprinkles don't get wasted that way either! The cake is also homemade. I tried a fork technique for the detail on the frosting, but it came out a little messier than I planned. That didn't really matter because it was still delicious! That cake was gone in 5 minutes!

Anyway, I know it's been about a week since I blogged last, but I was really sick and I'm still getting over whatever I had. This weekend there's another birthday too! My wife turns 30! yay! We're going to be going out to Philly for some fun.....I can't wait!

Arm Knitting DIY - Infinity Scarf

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

(sorry for the poopy iPhone picture, but I was super excited to share this!)

Sometimes I feel like I've been living under a rock! Where has arm knitting been, and why have I just discovered it?! I made this scarf in less than 30 minutes and it was a lot of fun! My co-worker Liz actually made one when it was really slow at work on Tuesday. We had that huge snow storm come through New Jersey and our store was dead. For some reason they made our store stay open, but anyway when Liz took her lunch she went out in the snow and bought yarn. She watched a you tube video and voila! She made an infinity scarf...in a cell phone store! haha. I thought the scarf was soooo cute I had to try it myself. I seriously can't believe how easy it is! I love to crochet, but sometimes my projects take forever. This was like a quick scarf to fill my crafty needs. I don't know about you, but my a.d.d. kicks in and I don't end up finishing half of my projects, but this was too easy to not try! I added the video I used below. It's short and to the point!

If you make one (or have already made one and posted about it) Link back to me! I would love to see your creations!

New Jersey Winter Sunset

Monday, January 20, 2014

We have some of the prettiest sunsets here and I've been meaning to share these pictures. I took them a few weeks ago. Besides a little cropping and straightening, these have no filters added. I didn't want to take away from the pretty pinks. They were all taken in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. This lake use to freeze over every winter. It actually froze enough so you could go ice skating on it. It doesn't get cold like that anymore, but it still gets cold enough to snow! When I was taking these pictures I was freezing!! The walkway was closed off, but I wanted to get some good shots, so I just jumped over! Rebel, I know. Anything for a good picture!

Outfit Diary - Sewn On Love

Saturday, January 18, 2014

Outfit Details:
Headband - Dollar Store
Glasses - c/o Firmoo
Hobbit Necklace - HModine on Etsy
Sweater Top - Wet Seal
Cami - Wet Seal
Leggings - Wet Seal
Flats - Payless
My entire outfit was a Christmas present, and I can't tell you how much I'm in love with this top! I love the fabric that's used for the heart, it looks like something I could of made myself. My wife bought everything, and it was a total surprise. Believe it or not she has come a long way when it comes to buying me clothes. She use to buy items that were too small, and I thought that was sweet. Now she actually knows the right sizes! The weird part is that I haven't owned anything from Wet Seal since I was in High School!

If you notice in a couple pictures I'm not wearing my necklace. To be honest I can't even remember when I put it on! haha! I thought I had it on the whole time. Funny how that happens?

This is also the first time I shot pictures in my room (that included the walls). I love the space and the lighting, but my landlord is one of the worst painters I've ever seen. Next up on the "to-do" list is touching up the white trim he so carelessly did not bother to do himself. It's amazing how a messy paint job can make a room seem dirty, even when it's clean!

International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club Relaunch!

Friday, January 17, 2014

Tell me this isn't that most awesome idea ever! I can't believe this is round 10! I missed out on all the other rounds, but I'm glad they are coming back for another one! I love snail mail (sending and receiving!) and what an awesome way to have a new friend, that you can connect with by mailing goodies and letters too. Their website offers so much more now! My favorite is that you can unlock achievement points...but hey, enough of my blabber! Here's some more info from their press release:

The International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club (geekgirlpenpals.com) has redesigned and rebuilt their
website and forums from scratch. Now, geek girls (and guys) worldwide can join in the fun on their
site by registering for a geeky pen pal, conversing on the forum and now battle their way up the
leaderboard with our brand new achievements! The site has also been optimized for mobile viewing
so you can keep up with IGGPPC from your phone or tablet!

"We introduced the Achievements functionality to encourage more friendly competition among our
members" explains Emily Farquharson, one of the co-founders of the club and leader of House
GlaDOS. Achievements include ones for holidays, active posters/bloggers, inter-house
competitions, fandom achievements like "Total Whovian" and there are even secret ones hidden
around the site! This new and improved expansion to the IGGPPC Universe also includes the
addition of four new staff members: Arielle Fragassi, Kimberlee Lockhart, Valerie Minnich and
Summer Sparacin, who have been lovingly dubbed their Ninjas. Their initial contribution will be
forum moderation and helping with organizing projects on the website.

IGGPPC community members are sorted into Houses, based on age, which are used to organize
pan pal match ups. The houses are named for four famous females in geek culture: Hermione
Granger (Harry Potter), Harley Quinn (Batman), GlaDOS (Portal) and Princess Leia (Star Wars). In
addition to pen pals and discussion forums, the International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club offers
members a chance to join in fun online and offline activities like photography contests, a book club,
meet ups for local chapters, candy and gift swaps and even street team swag to spread the word.
"We first established the Club in March of 2013 we had no idea it would grow and evolve into the
creative, supportive, intelligent and wise-cracking community we have today." said Leslie Stewart,
who is the club’s other co-founder and heads up House Granger. “So many of our members have
been there from the very beginning, so it will be incredible to be able to track and chronicle our
journey together through our new site.”

As to the rapid success the Club has had over the past year, they're not shy with numbers. "We
have 2,500 Facebook likes, we've paired nearly 10,000 girls and guys with a pen pal from around
the globe, and hand sorted through nearly 50,000 geek loves, that help us to determine the
compatibility of pen pals." Jen Giammarco, staff member and leader of House Organa, divulges.
"It's overwhelming and amazing, the response we've had."
The club has also been helped along thanks to some rad celebrities on Twitter who have helped
us spread the word as well. "We've been retweeted by musician Amanda Palmer, super geek celeb
Veronica Belmont, geek girl collective Team Unicorn and even Amy Poehler's Smart Girls." says
Emma Somerville, who is in charge of House Quinn. "And we really hope more geeks get wind of
our cool little club we've started and help us to spread the word."

The new Geek Girl Pen Pals website, achievements and all, is available to check out at
www.geekgirlpenpals.com from Saturday 11th January 2014. Girls and guys, aged 13 and up, are
welcome to join the site, earn achievements, and sign up to be paired with a pen pal on the 15th
of every month.

You can follow IGGPPC on Twitter @IGGPPCHQ (or search for #IGGPPC) or find them on

So head on over to their website and join in on the fun!

Okay, A Sloth and Some Random Thoughts.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Sooooo, I was having one of those nights, I just couldn't decide what to write about. Talk about a bad case of writers block! Luckily I know that the best cure is to keep on writing. Also one weird habit I have is looking up cute animals. So I found this sloth. I think Sloths are too cute!

In other news, I have so much planning to do! I think that is my main problem. My sons birthday is in a couple weeks. Next is my wife's, and then my daughters. Not to mention my brother will be in New York next month around my daughters birthday. Soooo much planning!!! We were thinking about taking our daughter to a themed restaurant. I think, right now, it's between the Ninja or Jekyll & Hyde. Is it weird that I'm kind of scared to go to New York City? Yeah I'm sure it's stupid, but sometimes I want to avoid cities at all costs, but at the same time I miss the hustle and bustle. My daughter is very excited and thats all that matters anyway!

Now is it me, or is this little blog of mine way over due for a giveaway? I feel like it's been forever! I also have quite a few DIY's to share with you guys. One thing at a time, right?

I'm also on a health kick again! For the last year I have been eating very unhealthy, which is not me. I thought I had adult onset acne. Turns out when I had cut my salt intake the red spots disappeared! I'm not use to eating processed fried food, fast food or overly salty foods, and my body was telling me to cut it out! I'll have to share some recipes with you guys! You'd be surprised how yummy food can be when you make healthy choices.

I hope you are all having a great day! I'll be taking pictures, going to the gym, and snuggling with kitties!

The Bathroom Selfie - A Photo Dump

Monday, January 13, 2014

Last Friday I went out to a venue to watch my father-law's band play. I was also there to get some group pictures of them. It was a lot of fun to get out of house! My daughter tagged along, and when we went to the bathroom at one point, and these pictures happened. I forgot I had my camera around me and for fun I took 1 picture....that tuned into about 15 pictures! My daughter and I love to be silly 24-7......and if everyone out there can take a bathroom selfie...why not us too?!
She's going to kill me if she sees that I posted this one! haha
I think I blinked a little, but maybe it's just my Asian eyes.
 Paper towel anyone?
She's looking at the screen now...
 yup....still looking...
Raise your hand! Salute to selfies!
 Makin the pouty face selfie!
 Peace sign selfie...
Back to back selfie! She's much cuter then me! haha
my (blurry) angel. I thought the wallpaper in this bathroom was really cool!
I'm not sure what's happening here, but she told me to be funny! lol

These pictures are a perfect example of of our silliness. Of course girls never go to the bathroom alone (girl code!) and I was testing my settings. The flash went off once and we both started posing! so we just went with it! laughing and being silly. These are my most favorite moments. My kids and I are so outrageous, we cant help it! I come from a family that is always joking around and apparently it's genetic!
I also want to add that these pics aren't edited at all. I love the pink hue, and I don't mind the graininess. It's just us being us! When my wife saw these pictures in my camera, she was laughing her ass off!

Life Lately...according to Instagram

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Good'ole Instagram! If it wasn't for that app, I don't know how I would be keeping track of events. Starting with the top, you see a salad, purse and me with my dog Petunia. Those pictures,of me and Petunia, are for a photo contest called "Best Buds" and I hope we get picked! The pictures are from a photoshoot we did. She is very photogenic and I love taking pictures of her...and with her! I also got ma hair did! I still have an ombré, but I'm in the process of going blonde. I love it!

My birthday just passed too! I can't believe that I'm 33! Where did the time go?! I was going to do a birthday post, but I haven't been feeling well, and we had that huge snow storm, so I wasn't feeling up to it. We got dumped with snow here on the Jersey Shore... But it's all gone. I hope we get more!

The new year has been going pretty well! How about you?

Keeping it Simple

Thursday, January 2, 2014

2013 was a hell of year for me. I laughed, I cried, and at some points I literally just wanted to give up on a lot of things. I felt overwhelmed almost everyday. With the New Year here, I plan on doing things differently. Every year I make a resolutions list. I pretty much completed the one I made last year. So here's my new one:

1. Write more. School requires me to do a lot of writing, but I really want to finish my book. Creative writing is my favorite. Maybe I might even get back into poetry!

2. Eat less processed food. I'm usually an organic/non-gmo only shopper, but after living on a tight budget we had to buy a lot of processed food. Now that we make decent money we can afford to buy the good stuff. I think it's really sad that we have to live this way, shouldn't all food be good for us?

3. Talk about topics that are meaningful to me. I love doing all the cute posts, but there are a lot of other things I would like to post about. I'm definitely going to have more "mommy" posts, and more personal posts on what it's like to me. I'm a pretty interesting person, I'd like to share more.

4. Crochet again! I haven't picked up my crochet hook in over a year! I miss it dearly. I want to at least make one new creation a month. Let's see if this happens!

5. Keep life simple. Things can get really hectic when you're a mom who works full-time and goes to college. I try to be super woman, but seriously keeping it simple is the best way to be happy.

Aside from those main goals, there are a few more that aren't as important, but I would like to accomplish them anyway. One is that I'm going to start shooting with film again. I got a pretty nifty camera over Christmas. It was one of those unexpected gifts from a family member, that I was more than grateful to receive! You will definitely see a post about it here soon! I also plan on taking some roadtrips this year. I love going places, but I plan on driving cross country again! Sounds crazy right?!

Do you have any New Years resolutions? I'd love to hear about them!
