Long Beach Island Pre Hurricane Sandy
I can't believe that this month is over, and it definitely went out with a BANG! Everywhere around us has been devastated, and I am so grateful for my family, and everything we have. We are among the lucky few on the Jersey Shore to have a home, yard, and vehicles with no damage. Even the places we all work at survived Hurricane Sandy. Sadly only 30 minutes away is Atlantic City, which is destroyed along with Long Beach Island. Which is where I took that picture above. It's been hard for me to even sit down and type, or even think about blogging, but just like so many other people, I need to do what feels normal. For the last 3 days we went without power, and feared for our homes, and families as the Hurricane passed through here. We barely slept the whole time. We worried about our safety and running out of food and water. Our house runs on well water, so if the power is out that means no power to the pumps to provide water. It has been an experience for sure. It wasn't my first natural disaster, but it was just as devastating.

One more post that I want to mention is : Things I'm Afraid To Tell You which is a Vlog.

We have been through a lot this week. My heart goes out to everyone effected by Hurricane Sandy. If your in any of the effected areas, remember to stay safe. Just because the storm is over doesn't mean we are in the clear yet. Clean up is a crucial time to take extra safety precautions. Be careful out there!

I also want to say thank you for everyone's kind words during this time....they mean the world to me and my family!

Hurricane Sandy

Cupcake details: Vanilla & Marshmallow, topped with chocolate frosting (dipped) with white chocolate spider webs spun by yours truly! Secured with spider rings.

We live on the Jersey Shore and Hurricane Sandy is almost here. At this point we still have power (about 9 am) which I'm excited about. The wind is bad and there is a lot of flooding in areas around us. Yesterday I was suppose to do a lot of baking for the Halloween parties at school for my kids, but schools are closed until Wednesday, so no parties. I still ended up baking some cute spider web cupcakes anyway. We don't have to evacuate (yet, knock on wood) but we have plenty of food and water, along with emergency bags in case we have to leave.

That little guy looks like he is ready for any storm!! Anyway, I hope we don't lose power, but from the looks of it, there is a really good chance considering there are so many people already out of power. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! If any of you out there live in the areas being affected by Hurricane Sandy, please be safe and listen to your local officials. It's always better to be safe than sorry. I survived Hurricane Irene last year in a town in Vermont, where they hadn't seen flooding in over 100 years and the entire town was devastated. Take caution my friends! ....Now I'm going to watch some T.V. while I still can :) Since were ordered to not leave our homes now. The only downside about living on the Jersey Shore.

Happy Halloween!

Well I'm not sure when I will be able to post again, so I hope you enjoy all the fun cupcakes I found! I love Halloween Cupcakes. The cute ghost cupcakes are my favorite! Anyway, since I live in New Jersey, we are right in the path of hurricane Sandy. We're most likely going to lose power, which will suck. I will still have my iPhone to work with though. I hope everyone else out there is having a great weekend. Happy storms!

Lately...

That's me, I finally had time to touch up the pink in my hair. I also made my finger tips pink too! I used gloves, as usual, but I like to run my fingers through my hair. So even if it's dry it will turn my fingers pink.
Anyway, Do you ever feel so busy, that your completely overwhelmed, and the only cure is sleep? That is exactly how I have been feeling lately. On top of that I feel like I can't get enough sleep, but I don't want to over sleep...I can't win. I also couldn't make up my mind about this blog post, so please excuse the randomness!
Okay, so on with the RANDOM...Here are 4 pictures that I noticed similarities. Sometimes I like to scroll through all my instagram pictures just to see how my love for taking pictures has changed, or how my face has changed, or really just to reminisce. I noticed that I like to take pictures up close of my face, or my eyes. Silly right? Is there a certain pose that you seem to do all the time?

That picture is very true. I have started writing two books and both of these books live in the computer that decided to stop working one day. I haven't extracted everything out of that computer yet, and I'm kinda filling up with a lot of ideas. I think I might take the old fashion route for a while. Pen to paper.

Anyway, I hope you watch that video....tooo much silliness! I also hope things are going well for all of you out there. I'll be working until Sunday, and then Sunday I will be baking all day for Halloween parties in each of my children's  classes. I'm making bloody eyeball muffins for my son ( muffins with a cherry filling, topped with icing and an eyeball made of red velvet cake) and Spider web cupcakes for my daughter's class (vanilla cupcakes, topped with a chocolate spider web and spider ring) all homemade by me. Hopefully I will have enough effort to take pictures of everything and post them for you guys! I love Halloween. Are you baking anything for Halloween? Tell me about it :)

Have a great day!

4. Do you have any fun Halloween traditions? We dress up every year, go to scary Halloween events, watch Tim Burton movies, pick out pumpkins and then carve them, decorate, corn mazes and make fun Halloween treats!

5. Share a scary local urban legend: Where I live currently there is The Legend of The Jersey Devil. You can read about it here : The New Jersey Historical Society

6. Would you rather be haunted or haunting? I would rather be haunted. I've lived in haunted places and its not too bad. I would rather go on and reincarnate.

Weekend Outings

Monday, October 22, 2012

On Sunday me, my wife, kids and mother-in-law, went to the Country Living Fair in Batsto, NJ. It was such a beautiful day out! We walked around a lot and people watched. I bought a beautiful vintage necklace (I'll share that later) and we ate some yummy funnel cake. There was so much to do. They had all kinds of different exhibits, from bee keepers to cedar cutting, clogging and restored classic cars. It was a lot of fun and the weather couldn't be more perfect. On the drive home we stopped at Lake Absegami and took  more pictures......I also took some video....I hope you like it :)

Sugar & Photography
Via: flavianahf
Today I want to talk about some of my favorite photography. If you've studied the art then you know of all the different techniques you can use to create beautiful and original photos. One of my favorites is Bokeh. This effect is made by playing with the depth of field of your subject. Sometimes the entire picture can be blurred, left with pretty lights in different shapes. Commonly you will see circles of light or just a pretty blurred picture. To make the shapes, like hearts, you need a lens cover with that shape cut out. I love these types of photos so much that I'm just in awe when I see it. I'm going to be practicing and see if I can capture some photos of my own, even though I don't have a telephoto lens yet. I was really excited to find so many Bokeh cupcake pictures. I think they go so well together!

Aren't they pretty? If you want to learn more, there are lots of tutorials on Youtube, and if you just Google Bokeh photography you will find a lot of information. If you have a smart phone you can also download apps to create faux Bokeh  pictures. Anyway, that's it for now and I hope your having a great day!

Outfit Diary

Thursday, October 18, 2012

I have to say, this dress has been my "go to" dress all summer. I have worn this dress so much that it's starting to fade. It's made of cotton and feels so soft, how can I not want to wear it all the time? It's also sad to say that my hair color is fading....but it still looks pretty in the sunlight. I wore this outfit out to dinner. We had family night and decided to go out to The Olive Garden. I know that since I'm some kind of blogger/hipster or whatever, you would expect me to go to some cool unknown place for dinner. Or maybe some cool vegetarian hot spot. Well, I'm a mom and I'm lucky to go anywhere besides my own kitchen! Plus I hate crowded places. We had a lot of fun though.....

We had so much fun! I love that my kids are so awesome whenever I take them anywhere. They always have been. We stuffed ourselves at The Olive Garden with pizza, cheese raviolis, spaghetti, egg plant parmesan, bread sticks, salads, soups and yummy drinks. After we were done there we went to the Halloween Store and picked up a couple things for our Halloween costumes. I bought those glasses I'm wearing...can you guess what my costume is going to be? After the Halloween Store we went to the ice cream stand and got ice cream! I got Pumpkin Pie ice cream!!! It was really good! It had pumpkin and pumpkin spices, plus pieces of graham cracker crust. I love Fall :) Do you have any plans for this weekend? We're going to the Country Craft Fair in Batsto.....I can't wait!
